Perpetual Cleanliness

An apartment becomes dirty almost instantly. You set down one glass and kick off your kicks, and suddenly the whole rooms a mess. This does not have to be.
I’ve been practicing a new way of cleaning lately that I think works great if you really commit to it: clean as you go. It is as simple as it sounds. Just pick things up when you are moving in between rooms, or when you are working on another task. I move in between rooms dozens of times a day (when working out of my home office) and if I pick up something and put it where it should be, my apartment is clean before I even clean it! This works well when you are making food, doing laundry, or avoiding emails. Most of these kinds of tasks have small breaks that can be used to pick up a bit inside of a room. I have plenty of time to unload the dishwasher when I’m making a cup of tea.

Just thinking about cleanness as a direction, not a destination brings your expectations to reality, and allows to clean even though you are spending no new time cleaning. Test it out today, and leave a comment about your experience.
